IKEA

Before the trip Posted on 03 Mar, 2013 22:22:56

Today we went to IKEA to purchase the last stuff needed for Sindri before he comes home.

He now has a new bed, linen and small stuff like that. He even got a really nice mat for the floor that looks like a town with roads and everything. I am looking forward to playing with him on the mat 🙂

Just to remind everyone reading here that there is 2 weeks until the party and I really would like for everyone that are able to show to show.

The link to the event is on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/events/210208682454120/

but if you don’t have facebook, don’t hesitate to give me or Korinna a message or phone call telling us you are coming 🙂

20 days and counting…. crazynes.

Travel Allowence

Before the trip Posted on 02 Mar, 2013 15:15:58

On February 27th we got our official travel allowance (TA). This is a quite important piece of paper which states that:

“In accordance with the Adoption Law of the people’s Republic of China and the Convention on Protection of Children and Coopration in Respect of Intercountry Adoption, we agreed that the child Shi Jin Ju (male, born on 2009/06/06), who is in the care of Shijianzhuang SWU Hebei Province, be placed with you for adoption. Please travel in person with this notice to the adoption registry office within the Civil Affairs Department of Hebei Province in China to proceed the registration formalities.”

So everything is going well. Today, Saturday, we went and checked out a children’s car seat which we can pick up after the weekend. I went to my saturday yoga class and Hjalti went to the fishing club with his dad. Soon we will leave to a party and the annual celebration of Hjalti’s company. Sleeping in tomorrow i guess. Picking up the visas from the embassy of China here in Reykjavik on monday and the rest of the papers we need to take with us from the adoption agency here on tuesday.

I am relaxing in the sofa by the way waiting for my bottle of red wine. Munching chocolate chip cookies with peanut butter. I am expecting after all.

Happy New Year

Before the trip Posted on 12 Feb, 2013 22:46:43

On february the 10th China celebrated its New Year, the year of the water snake. Me and Hjalti went to an event at the University of Iceland, had some green tea and got a picture taken.

Travel Meeting

Before the trip Posted on 01 Feb, 2013 21:24:07

Yesterday we went to a travel meeting at the adoption agency www.isadopt.is

A couple who has travel twice to China to pick up their daughters talked about all kind of things. Basically a million zillion trillion things to remember.

* injections for China (Hepatitis A and B and maybe something else but we are going to the safest of the safest region, Beijing and Hebei and the safest season, spring, so we do not really need to worry about that)

* papers for travel-allowance, papers from the adoption agency, papers from the child care service, copied passports, copy of the papers which were sent to China, income statement, passport pictures and our visas for China.

– all in three copies and kept in our hand luggage 🙂

* talk to our insurance company so Sindri will be protected by insurance the moment we sign the papers in China (and not the moment he will actually become an icelandic citizen which will happen somedays after arrival home)

* Pay all those amazing sums of money ( adoption fees to the nursery, bureaucracy fees, train tickets to and from Shijianzhuang, fees for our travel guide in China – transferred before the trip and ready to be picked up at the embassy of Iceland in Beijing, fees to the agency here, plane tickets and yes, some money to have fun with, 谢谢 (thank you))

* double check with VISA (travel and luggage insurance)

* print rate spreads

* pack (good shoes and cloths for the three of us, some fancy cloth for me and Hjalti which we feel comfortable in to wear on the day we will unite, medicine for allergy, diarrhea, constipation, fever, sleeplessness, thermometer, tissues, diapers, ear plugs, headphones, raisins, dry cookies, water bottle, zip locks, games, blocks, books, camera, computer, hotel and other important addresses on carton written in Chinese, charger and plug, presents for the caretakers, red envelops with our address, all questions to be asked on “gotcha – day”, snacks and a stress ball)

* apply for child allowance (first 3 month we take together and then we have 3 month left to divide between us)

Sometime, well, hopefully soon…we will get some dates because all we know now is “expected in April” and then we must

* order tickets (Schengen only, 2 tickets to Beijing and 3 tickets, one addressee Shi Jin Ju)

back home

* well, use the stress ball before we pack it, Korinna does her yoga, enjoy partying, sleeping in, watching violent movies and sex on tv 🙂
